This package contains the Dell Platform Tags Utility. It is supported on OptiPlex, XPS, Tablet, Precision and Latitude systems that run the Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows10 and DOS operating systems. Do you happen to know if this asset tag utility can be used on all newer model Dell laptops and desktops? To change (or set) a service tag on newer Dell systems you need to use the PlatTag.exe utility as asset is no longer used except on older systems. Mike Smith Link June 5, 2012, 6:53 AM.

It writes the asset tag to the system BIOS?The Dell BIOS has a field that takes a special utility to write to it. The old version no longer works in the newer Dell.We already have alot of our machines record with their asset tag field populated. Some of my older machines that already have the ASSET tag entered in the BIOS have auto-populated the field. Our Facilities Management group assigns an asset tag # to everything over $500 as soon as the invoice is processed.
That # stays with the equipment until it is dispossed of. Having it written in the BIOS to match the bar code on the outside of the case has advantages for many purposes.
So I downloaded the CCTK via the link Ben provided, and using the CLI I can set other BIOS information (enable wakeonlan, etc), but it doesn't seem to keep the asset tag info (nor does the info stay when using atag.exe).any ideas?
